Hawaii:Sessions:19901208:The Hunting Lodge
The team continued north with no trouble. After they had traveled about eight miles, Starsinger pointed out a forest trail going off to the northwest that led to the Duke's hunting lodge. Starsinger bade them goodbye and continued north. Whitetop and Tanisha noted that the ground showed over fifty horses within the last thirty-six hours. After about three miles they noted watchers from the woods who appeared to be in royal colors. They then came to a large clearing which contained a house, stable, and barracks. Alon and Cartwright dismounted. Cartwright disarmed and they then approached the roving perimeter guard. This lieutenant listened to their pitch about needing to see the King. The lieutenant informed them that the King was hunting to the north, but allowed them to come in to wait. Whitetop stayed at the edge of the clearing, and Dr. Ill, who had just caught up, circled the clearing and located nine external guards. Cartwright stayed on the porch, and the other four followed the lieutenant in.
It was now 4 PM. The servant led Tanisha, Tormac, Kristi, and Two-Leaf to the library and offered them refreshments. Tanisha accepted and asked that some be taken out to the others. This was done, and Cartwright then went to the edge of the clearing to see if Whitetop wanted anything. He didn't.
Whitetop then moved further away from the clearing, removed his equipment, and turned into an eagle. He then flew a search pattern to the north. Dr. Ill circled to the north on the ground and picked up the hunting party's trail. As he followed it he noticed some strange tracks which he did not recognize. Whitetop in his search pattern found the King's hunting party. He saw two dead and several wounded. He flew back and transformed several minutes after the inside team had tried to get in touch with him. He told them what he had seen. Tanisha immediately told the servant to summon the healer. Just then Dr. Ill encountered the hunting party and paced it in.
When the hunting party entered the clearing from the north at 5 PM the entire team as well as the royal troops met them and immediately began treatment. Dr. Ill elicited some unusual response but it relented when he proved to be a great help. Once every hurt guard was taken care of and deposited in the barracks, the King led the team into the library for a discussion. Dr. Ill remained outside after going to the barracks. Cartwright took up a position looking out the window, and Whitetop took up a guard position at the back library door. Then began a long discussion wherein Tanisha and Tormac tried to inform King Rogar III about the danger to him. The King was skeptical, even when Tanisha proved she was an Elf. The military advisor, Bartan, was offended at the thought that his men could not defend the King. The King maintained that no one but his people knew he was here at the lodge. The team pointed out that they had found out. The discussion ended without a resolution being reached. The King said that they should get ready for dinner. Tanisha had read Bartan's mind and only found indignation. The team had agreed about dinner. Bartan did agree to increase the guard, and he did so as soon as the meeting ended. The King then had the team led to two rooms for their use. These two rooms were right at the top of the stairs. Cartwright stayed outside the two rooms and relayed to the rest where each of the others went. The Black Holes were put up and the team cleaned up.
(Taren, in an uproar, left the meeting feeling that the King might give in to the team's urging to leave, so he used his communication globe to put the strike force into action and summoned Braden via the HQ leaders. He told Braden to report to his room at the manor.)
