The surviving slavers from Malprin remain prisoners in the King's dungeons, awaiting probable deportation.

The King finally met with Chalker, where he announced that by royal edict the slave trade would be outlawed in his land. He wishes to establish formal diplomatic ties with Chalker's home country, Dolyena.

The group was invited to a banquet at the palace, which had scarcely begun when a crazed nobleman attempted to stab Chalker with an enchanted dagger. As it happened, Aliana had earlier noticed the nobleman's rising agitation and stolen the dagger out of its sheath. Later she showed the dagger and sheath (both magical, with an evil aura) to Riley, who identified them as having been crafted by a master artificer who was kidnapped from "the Isle" three years ago by Malprin slavers.

Despite the imminence of "the Godwalk" and the apocalyptic overtones thereof, the common people show no concern at all and go about their business as normal.
