Kef spent a good deal of this period traveling about the country, anonymously identifying unknown human remains and solving cold cases. She attended Vivian Gray's high school graduation, and regularly emails both Vivian and her younger brother Ed.
Kef received a handwritten letter, forwarded from Paula, from Philip Deveraux, with whom Kef had been acquainted from the renfair circuit. In the letter he informs Kef that he will be in Dallas near the end of October, and invites her to attend a performance of a magician called Lazarus.
At the moment when the timeline was repaired, Kef was in Corvallis, Oregon. Upon hearing that Steve lay in a coma, she put her RV in storage and flew back to Dallas. Despite her efforts Steve's condition remains unchanged, but she intends to persist until he is healed. She has rented a small apartment in Terrell in order to be close to the long-term care facility.
