At 8:00am Friday morning, Clint meets with fellow FBI agents Glen Michael and Fredine Garrison. He assigns Garrison to the Hyatt (FrightFest), Michael to Waxahachie (Scarborough Faire), and himself to Fort Worth (Mayfest).

Nathan has Sara check the name "Enoch" with regards to the TX/OK/AR/GA area and environmental causes. "Some eco-terrorists are gonna blow up the Hyatt." He tells Orley to don his bulletproof vest, describing Kef's vision.

At 10:00am Kef sees an actor who could be the father of the teenage boy she had seen bleeding on an altar. She learns the actor's name, Joe Ellison, and that of his son, Lamar; Lamar and his mother are staying at a Quality Inn in Dallas and will be attending FrightFest. Kef phones Nathan just as he and Orley are arriving at the Hyatt and gives him Lamar Ellison's name and description.

Nathan checks with FrightFest registration and learns that Lamar Ellison has not yet picked up his convention badge. Nathan leaves his number with a message to call him.

Fredine notifies Clint that she's spotted Nathan Rahl at the Hyatt; "That guy seems to be in the middle of everything." [Well, Nathan is a Weirdness Magnet.]

Kef sees a group of workmen that "rings alarms in her head." They are setting up a booth depicting sea creatures labeled "Monsters of the Deep". The logo on their shirts is that of Planetary Investments. She gets feelings of "bad empathy" and "contained fury." Kef speaks with the head of Faire security, Ned.

Nathan looks over a list of event sponsors. Plus Time Views, a streaming service, catches his eye because the name reminds him of Plus Time Securities. He phones Stan Hammer, who tells him that Plus Time Securities is listed on the NYSE as an investment advisor to small companies and individuals. Three of their top officers are Derek Keen, Dustin Bork, and Betty Joshua. One-third of their investments fall under the "environmental" category. Bork is a "bigwig" with Plus Time Securities and is on the board of directors of Planetary Investments.

Nathan learns that con guest Bruce Campbell will be appearing at an Evil Dead themed part that starts at 10:00pm. Nathan buys a couple of Evil Dead t-shirts.

Clint is informed that the Fort Worth PD has increased security at Mayfest and even has a SWAT team there. All the vendors are being (re-)vetted. At one site Clint calls on SWAT to clear the area and check inside a garbage can; he describes a man he had seen walking away. Clint heads for the Hyatt.

Ned (head of Faire security) tells Kef that two of the workmen's names didn't check out, so the group was kicked out. Their truck had Missouri plates and a small Planetary Investments logo. "The FBI is investigating." Kef calls Nathan with this information.

The hotel detective questions Nathan's presence in the stairwells. Nathan replies, "My FitBit requires ten flights of stairs" and the detective leaves him alone.

Nathan learns from Stan that Planetary Investments invests in wind power, geothermal, and other forms of renewable energy. Nathan muses, "Someone is pumping a lot of money into them." Planetary Investments is privately held; their primary is Maurice Manuel Bean, a multimillionaire whose money comes from oil and gas. Six of their people have been arrested for "eco-crime", and another two dozen are in a "second chance" program working mainly as delivery drivers. Nathan sends Stan to Mayfest.

Clint is informed by SWAT that under the garbage can was not a bomb but a pressurized gas sprayer.

Nathan phones Clint and asks him the names of the four men detained. Clint in turn asks what Nathan's doing at the Hyatt. Nathan lists twelve names of felons that work for Planetary Investments; none of them are on Clint's list. "Planetary Investments and another company, Plus Time Securities, are involved." Clint heads for the Hyatt.

Nathan calls over Agent Fredine Garrison and exclaims, "You are good!" She had been tailing him for some time and he didn't notice.

Clint meets up with Nathan. Clint: "Why are you at the Hyatt rather than Waxahachie or Fort Worth?" Nathan: "This is a turning point. It will go down at the Bruce Campbell event, most likely." Clint: "There are potential biological attacks at the other two places." Nathan: "I'm not being paid right now, but I'll be billing people."

Nathan notices Lamar Ellison and his mother checking in; he points them out to Clint and says, "He's a victim." Nathan asks about Enoch and Clint replies that he's looking into it.

Nathan finds the place on the roof that Kef had described. On top of an HVAC unit is carved out a rectangle where a box could be locked in place. He sends pictures to Lucy Buckner and Jethro Boone. He takes a listening device from Orley and sets it there.

Clint concentrates on Shane Miller. The latter is ten miles away in a hotel lobby in downtown Dallas. He tells Nathan that Miller can lead them to Enoch.

Kef reads the two pamphlets that were left at the suspicious booth. They contain subliminal messages that inspire violence. She hides the rest of the pamphlets in another booth, then calls Nathan. He tells her, "Look for an object that can be used as an aerosol." She immediately thinks of the "scent of the sea" at the booth and goes and warns Ned to have the FBI confiscate the spray canisters.

Clint and Nathan go to the hotel where Shane Miller is staying. The desk clerk won't give out Miller's room number without a warrant, but Nathan slips her $40 and asks her to call him to come down. Clint still has his Trace on Miller; he goes up to the 3rd floor and sees Miller emerge from his room and head toward the elevator. Clint goes into an act, handing Miller a pamphlet. Miller tells him "if you want to meet others, I can hook you up next week." Clint gives his name as Fred Gillespie, adding "You might know my cousin Donovan." Miller: "What a big coincidence."

Nathan comes up behind Miller. "That guy there is the FBI. I wouldn't run; I'm not gonna chase you, but he is." Miller tenses; Nathan gets behind him but Miller evades his grab. Clint tries a judo throw. Miller fast-draws a 9mm and fires at Clint, missing. Nathan kicks at Miller's legs; Miller dodges. Nathan dodges a shot from Miller. Nathan critically hits Miller. Clint grabs Miller and throws him. Miller brings his gun up onder his own chin; Clint knocks the gun enough that the bullet merely creases Miller's face. Nathan stomps hard, snapping Miller's gun wrist and making him drop the gun.

Clint cuffs Miller, who screams in pain. Nathan: "Shane, are you still with us?" Miller: "Pigs! Curse you!" Nathan: "Were you gonna be at Mayfest?" Miller: "Yes." (Obviously lying) Nathan: "So Paige is at Mayfest. You're not dressed for FrightFest."

Security comes and takes Miller to the security office and brings in a doctor. Clint: "Is Enoch upstairs, too?" Miller: "Hell, no! If he was, he'd take care of y'all!" Eventually Miller passes out.

A policeman enters and Clint explains that Miller is part of a terrorist cell. Clint requests that Detective Dallas be brought into the situation.

Donning gloves, Nathan searches Miller's room. He finds floor plans for the DFW Hyatt. He takes photos and sends them to Clint's phone. He finds a notebook computer, a case containing an AK-47, and a FrightFest costume. He calls Lucy to crack the password on the notebook.

Nathan calls Orley and tells him "Shane Miller was coming to FrightFest, but he's incapacitated." Orley replies that the listening device is operational; he's presently at a panel discussion that Lamar Ellison is also attending. Nathan: "Stay with him. He's the first sacrifice."

Clint has Miller revived just as DPD Detective Mike Dallas walks up. Nathan explains, "He shot at an FBI agent, twice. He's part of an ecoterrorist group. I broke his wrist, sorry."

Clint questions Miller about Enoch. "Enoch is the one chosen to save the planet!" Tonight he will be at the Hyatt. Nathan: "What does the gas do?" Miller: "Helps insure 'purification instincts'. It will purify the Earth with blood!"

After a confrontation at the booth, Ned, the police, and the FBI order the removal of the spray device and send it to the FBI lab to be analyzed.

Kef's cards read: situation dangerous, but manageable. Kef needs to be at the hotel, but the gun battle she had envisioned has been 'mitigated'. Kef tells her friend Ellen Parker not to go to FrightFest tonight, and asks her to call an Uber.

Nathan sends Gabrielle to Mayfest. "Wear body armor, and get a gas mask."

Clint and Nathan get themselves made up as zombies.

Lamar is overheard trying to convince his mom to let him stay at FrightFest by himself. He has also talked to some kid named Alonzo (6', lanky).

At the Hyatt, Kef extends her Empathy, asking herself "what's wrong with this picture?" She picks up on malevolence, about a dozen "people who mean ill" in the hotel; one of these is much stronger, like a blowtorch compared to a candle. She senses that this one is somewhere in the middle of the hotel; drawing a card from her tarot deck, she then goes to the sixth floor. Once there, she senses that the "blowtorch" is on the eighth floor, room 820, with at least two other people. She calls and tells Nathan, then takes the stairs to the 8th floor and waits in the stairwell.

Nathan says to Clint, "We're going to room 820." Clint: "Paige is also there."

Orley reports, "Lamar's mom has left. Alonzo is near Lamar. Photos I take of Alonzo are blurred, but other objects are clear. He's carrying a backpack and a satchel. He gives off a funny feeling." Nathan sends an FBI agent to apprehend Alonzo and confiscate the backpack.

In front of Room 820, Fredine Garrison joins Clint and Nathan. Nathan tries the door, then knocks. A female voice (Paige) answers, "This is a private room." Nathan replies "I have a key" and pulls out his gun.

Inside the room is a card table covered with papers, a laptop, a notebook, and several guns. An angry man in his 40s wearing "fighting leathers" and three other people in Evil Dead getup are standing around the table. There are others in the room as well. Nathan: "Shane Miller sent me." Clint: "Enoch, you're under arrest." Nathan: "If your friends reach for their guns, I'll shoot." Paige isn't wearing armor, but admits she is armed, adding "You know they won't surrender." Nathan lays his shotgun on her shoulder and fires.

Kef has heard people coming up the stairs. She slips through the stairwell door and braces it closed with her body.

Nathan pulls out a shock stick in his left hand. Numbers 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 reach for weapons. #3 fast-draws and points at Clint. Clint fires at #3, who is wearing no armor. Garrison knocks out #8 with the butt of her gun.

Enoch pulls something from his mid-back, locks eyes with Clint, and says "Purify." Clint finds that he wants Enoch to lead him. Nathan steps to one side and fires, hitting Enoch with one slug. Something rustles and lunges at Nathan's leg with a knife. #4 shoots and bruises Clint. #5 calls out "Join us, brother" but Clint thinks "He's not my bro." #6 fires and misses. Garrison shoots #7. Clint shoots #4, who drops; Clint calls, "Stop resisting!"

Garrison shoots #6. Nathan steps away from Paige and shoots at Enoch, who dodges. Enoch pulls out a papier-mâché grenade and crushes it, causing a bright flash (-3 DX). #6 is blinded. Clint fires at Enoch's head and misses. #6 fires wildly at Garrison. #7 falls down. #5 shoots and Clint parries.

Enoch turns and jumps out a window. Nathan shoots #5, who drops. Clint runs to the window and looks down; he sees a brown object falling, now halfway to the ground. Clint throws a chair out the window. Garrison hits #6 in the shoulder. (Kef senses the 'blowtorch' dimming as it recedes downward.)

Garrison kayos #6. Nathan looks out the window with his hyperspectral vision. There's human-sized body lying on the pavement, unmoving. Clint calls another FBI agent and reports, "He jumped out the window."
