Jessica Spring agreed to go on a mission with Jason Rathbone. The mission involved going back to an Earth where they had been before so that Rathbone could win a poker game. Other team members included Dr. Vincent Emery, Torimar 312, Samantha Dancer, Beano Luca, and Gregory Darnell.
They popped in beneath a highway overpass in St. Louis; just like the previous time, everyone was naked except for their amulets (except Samantha, whose fur covered her). This time, though, there was no demon in a trash barrel, but there was a van waiting to take them to the mansion headquarters of the Infinite Solutions Foundation.
Another IS agent, Tanya Sliver, had done some preliminary work here. There was an official invitation to the big poker game for Rathbone, along with the house rules. Also, there was detailed information about the Mob in Boston. The group needed to raise $550,000 for Rathbone's entry fee, and they only had a few days to do it in, so they decided they'd steal it from the Mob.
The group went to Boston and checked into a nice hotel. That evening, Jessica went out for a stroll in a park that was rumored to be haunted. She discovered that the "ghost" was actually a boy with telekinetic powers. When he departed, she trailed him until he hopped onto the back bumper of a taxi.
Dividing into two teams, Our Heroes hit two Mob money drops simultaneously. Rathbone's team encountered a disembodied floating eyeball. Jessica's team, when they went to switch cars, found the same boy Jessica had seen in the park the night before hiding in the other car's trunk. He seemed to be in a state of hibernation, so they left him alone and continued onward.
The take was more than enough to cover the entry fee. Samantha arranged to lease a Learjet, and the group flew to Las Vegas.
The site of the big game was a mansion on the outskirts of the city. There were four other players signed up.
. . .
As Jessica approached, the little girl asked her, "Are you the one?" Later, the explanation came out that the boy, Bert, had had a vision indicating that they should find Jessica and she would help them.
. . .
The children were orphans; they didn't seem to remember much about their real parents. They had bounced from one foster home to another. They were cocksure in their powers, and considered other people to be merely tools or obstacles.
. . .
Samantha, having filed a fake flight plan, zigzagged back to St. Louis. The money was put in trust for the Foundation. The children were formally adopted by two of the Foundation's people.
