Report 36J

To the Vellon Se Co Arch Mage Council: Regarding the completion of the Vellon/Alpina Trade Route.

To the honored elders of the Supreme Council and all learned brethren of note. I am happy to inform you of many items of importance the least of which is by no means the completion of my project as Senior Journeyman. The newly formed and highly receptive Alpina Mage Guild was only too pleased to receive this lowly trader into their midsts and have agreed to serve as the far end of our trade route. Along with the connections that I have reported in previous messages this makes a total five stop route which is one above the expected number. As elated as this makes me I have more pressing news to relate and am short of time. Even as I would never dream to press your wisdom for my needs the needs of the world seem to request that I ask a level of haste as you bring your skill to bear on my following requests and if at all possible return your just answer to me via the same route it was sent.

I was recently approached by an odd man in a strange hat. At first I thought him to be one of our southern brethren and shortly after thought his head to have been touched by the First Chosen. I came shortly to realize that he was neither or perhaps a little of both. He had been told that he was tasked with recruiting me to work with a group of his associates to ensure the preservation of all Erethel. I would have kindly parted ways with him but after being introduced to his associates was caught at an impasse. Though the group was odd and varied (at first seeming to be perhaps a rag-tag group of unfortunate misfits) they had in their possession the Diamond of Sapphire. I know that you my elevated masters will disbelieve this to be the case but on my Honor as a brother I ask your indulgence. As I am unable to send you proof of the Diamond's authenticity I have instead included a number of items that I have garnered during my brief interaction with them. See the following items enclosed:

Venetian Spell Ready Fabric: I believe all of our known samples were lost 500 years ago.

5 Vials Purified Unicorn Dung Pure Grade: I have obtained a direct source.

Two Schematics of a Venetian Transport Device and Control Spell: Master Fronies or Arch Master Grest should be able to confirm the accuracy of the language from our library.

A Thaumatological Text directed towards the manipulation, connection and organization of data that needs to be decoded and modified: This is the only copy.

A Telepathy Amulet: Taken from a zombie.

In addition the party has in its possession a number of powerful and potentially dangerous artifacts that they are probably not willing to part with. A comprehensive list is attached for your information but I would not want to put them out by direct request for any of the items.

It would seem where this group treads items of power spring up like flowers. I feel that it would be in the best interests of the guild to continue a relationship. I know that doing so would be the role of a Master and as I am always at the service of Vellon I will humbly return upon your command if you feel it would be best to replace me. Due to the erratic movements of the group the Master Mage who accompanies them should probably be given a Fast Answering Xotrope. The FAX would allow swifter reports and tighter management of the master's resources. I would recomend Arch Mage Helfax as the ideal archmage for managing the relay on that end.

As a follow up the AMG has requested that we send a competent Alchemist to replace me if I am headed home or to other destinations as it seems they have felt spoiled by my presence. An enchanter would also be a large asset but either will need to be versed in both our administrative techniques as well as having the full authority and support of our guild on the deep level. The reason for that support is that the local ruler King ___________ (the association with His Majesty is compliments of our new friend in the odd hat) has asked if we would be willing to directly align our guild with the local one. I will leave any formal decisions in your capable hands but I will mention the guild here could desperately use the help. It has many competent mages but mostly they lack the direction and cohesion of the mages of Vellon. As an Apprentice at the foot of all who have learning to offer, I await your reply.

Humbly Bound,

Corrial Gilberts
