Dallas:Characters:Carla Newton
Carla Newton is in her mid-20s (as of May 2005). She is about 5'5" tall and has dark hair. Carla has a rap for drug possession/sale, for which she received probation.
Carla grew up traveling throughout the midwest with a carnival out of Denver. Several performers in the carnival possessed actual metahuman talents, including her mother, a touch telepath, and her father, a strongman (he was of ordinary build, but had three times the strength of a normal man). There was also a mage with a few fire spells, a telekinetic, a mimic, and an acrobat with perfect balance. The only special skill Carla inherited was her mind shield. She was away at college when her parents were killed in what she was told was an accident.
After this Carla started getting into detective work and “spy stuff,” and it was her knowledge of unusual things that led to her being hired by Robert Cagle. Blaming the carnival for her parents’ death she readily gave them up to Cagle, though as far as she knows he never followed up on that lead. She wasn't sure what Cagle’s motives were, but she didn’t really care, either. The other members of her Chicago-based cell were Amy Bronson, Compton Ferris, Neil Parson, and Vic Daniels.
Carla was originally encountered by Jeremy as a stowaway on his jet. Her frenzied tale that she was in trouble for having witnessed a murder committed by some Middle Eastern men and needed to get to London to be with her boyfriend (a numbers runner and insurance collector for the Mob)... didn't hold water, to say the least. She has been described as "amoral" both by Kef and Agent Newhurst. Captured by the Dallas team, she and Amy Bronson were handed over to mercenary Joe McBride in exchange for McBride's not hampering the team's departure from Dublin. Although Solution Security has been trying to locate her, there has been no trace of Carla Newton since.
Blake's investigators reported that Carla's parents had been murdered. Blake gave Carla's parents' names to Agent Newhurst, who told him there were several things about the case that didn't seem right, including the fact that the bodies disappeared from the morgue. The official report stated that they had been killed during a robbery; the murderers, Elroy Benton and Troy Donnally, were tried, convicted, and are currently doing time in a Colorado prison. On August 1, 2005, Blake and Kef interviewed Benton and Donnally at the prison. Kef determined that their memories of the murder night had been falsified by an unknown psion, a man in his mid-30s with a military-style crew cut.
