Hawaii:Sessions:19910105:The Investigation Begins
THE INVESTIGATION BEGINS
When the team arrived it appeared to be about 10 am. They were on top of a hill in a park. The rest of the city was shrouded in fog, but this hill rose above it. The team arrived next to a statue of a military man on horseback, so they went over and read the plaque. While they were doing this someone else's purse was snatched. Milo and a couple of the others headed after the thief but a plainclothes cop caught him first. The team then had a nice little talk with the officer, as his partner (who had been disguised as the woman whose purse had been stolen) took the thief away. The team then decided to descend the hill to find a hotel to use as a base of operations. They bought several papers on their way to the hotel.
They found a fairly nice hotel (three stories high) and checked in, paying for two suites, each with two bedrooms and four beds. The suites were across the hall from each other. They stowed their gear and then met in the men's living room. A reading of the papers revealed many strange things were going on.
- A headless horseman beheading people;
- A slasher-type murderer; and
- Someone vandalizing the cemetery.
The team had a discussion and decided to split into three sub-teams to explore the likeliest possibilities. 1) Darr and Tormac got a carriage outside the hotel to go to the police station. The trip was uneventful, and once inside they went to the reception area and asked to speak to the officer in charge of the investigations. Once the request was made, she summoned Alistair Stone. Stone arrived and took them to his office. Darr went in and took a seat while Tormac stayed just inside the door, much as a bodyguard would. Stone was a big stout man. Darr passed himself off as someone just into town who would like to help the police. Stone accepted him and gave him information on each case.
Slasher: Murders occurred in White Chapel for several weeks. About three weeks before the fog got bad, which was two weeks ago. No pattern. He'd even killed a policeman. No one had even seen him. Dozens of deaths. Used scalpel.
Horseman: All beheadings occurred on Wharf Street. Usually one per day. Usually at night but some during the day.
Darr told him where they were staying, then he and Tormac left.
2) Siobhan, Milo, and Roberto went to the hospital. There the two doctors met the staff and learned a few items:
A) The horseman's victims' heads were never found. Some of his victims had ice wound in chest.
B) Slasher gutted victims after toying with them. Always hamstrung victims first.
The two then spent the rest of the day helping the staff in the emergency room and surgery. Roberto patiently waited.
3) Tanisha, Lara Lee, and Brodie took a carriage out to the cemetery. The cabbie did not want to wait, but did say he would return for them in thirty minutes. They found parts of the fence down. One part was obviously pushed down from the inside. Examination of the cemetery showed several graves where the body had appeared to climb out. Tanisha began tracking one set of prints. They led to a shanty town where they found a dead person inside the first building. There was no sign of anyone. They then backed up and picked up another set of prints, which they followed into a field where they found one dead(?) mangled corpse. Since their thirty minutes were up, they rushed back to the cemetery to meet their carriage.
They all met at the hotel for supper and discussed what they had discovered that day. They also set plans for the next day's investigations. They went to bed and had an uneventful night.
