THE FINALE
Once everything was square with the Hole, Jake suggested that Whitetop might want to go up top to see what was going on. Whitetop reluctantly agreed, changed, and took to the air. Minutes later Whitetop returned and landed in front of Jake (who was astride his cycle) and changed back. Whitetop indicated that a general exodus of the town was underway. No organized resistance was brewing except in the ogre quarter of the city, where one large ogre was giving speeches/instructions to quite a number of ogres. Jake got his exact location from Whitetop, then said he'd go take care of him and called for one person as backup. Cartwright and Rathbone volunteered. Rathbone asked Whitetop to provide a weapon for Joshua, reclaimed his 9mm, and hopped on the back of Jake's bike.
They stopped over a hundred yards from where the ogres were gathering and climbed up on the wall to get a good view. At a distance of over ninety yards they stopped, and Jake, using his M-16, took careful aim at the apparent leader. Jake fired three shots and hit with each one, the last literally blowing apart the leader's head. Jake and Rathbone then returned to the group with no opposition.
While they were gone, Kathy (who had been gone since the dragon appeared) came up behind Jessica. Jessica brought her up to speed just before Jake and Rathbone got back. Jessica asked for a sandwich. Jake then roared into the Black Hole. He made Jessica a large submarine sandwich which she shared with Kathy. Food was also made for the rest of the external guards.
As soon as Black was out of the autodoc, the team gathered together via net to decide what to do. After much discussion it was decided to go after the demon first, sicne they knew for sure the dragon was to the west. The team stocked up on ammo and took down the Black Holes. They then headed to the demon's lair which Jessica, Whitetop, and Jake had demolished earlier that morning. They half-carried the still stiff Thomas Black. Once they reached the house, they spread out to do a detailed search. Rathbone during this whole time was upset with Joshua. Jessica had to calm him own a couple of times. The search turned up nothing new. All the rest of the treasure was gone. And no one was in the house. Cartwright decided to defile the altar on which they had bound Jake, so he pissed on it. Kathy told him to tuck it in, then used a spell to stretch the manacles completely out of shape.
Meanwhile Thomas, Jake, Rathbone, and Trey were in the main bedroom making a detailed search. Thomas stopped the search at the bed after picking up something. He then began a ritual, and after a few seconds he vanished with a faint scent of sulfur going into the air. Whitetop, as well as those in the room, smelled it and immediately concluded that the demon had killed Thomas Black. The discussion continued in this vein until several minutes later an eight-inch-tall Thomas Black reappeared. This was a very unhappy Thomas Black. Something had gone very wrong when he had attempted to seek out the demon. The spell had taken him into the demon's presence. It had shrunk him and threatened to do more if he performed any more magic. It had then returned Thomas. Thomas therefore told the group that he had a way to bring the demon to them.
The team then began setting up the trap. Whitetop molded a Thomas Black doll out of plastique, fused it, and gave the remote detonator to Trey. The floor clearance to ground was such that it allowed crawlspace for the reduced Black. Jake acquired a tin can from the auto chef, and a fishing line was attached to it. A hole was cut in the floor and the can positioned. A dry run bruised up Black, leading them to pad the can with cotton. The can was repositioned and the team set themselves. Black was in the middle of the room. Joshua was just outside the house so he could reel in the can. The rest were lined up by what remained of the wall, with weapons aimed inward.
Black then did a spell to create light. It did not work, but as soon as he had finished he jumped into the can and was pulled to safety. Nothing happened in the room. Just as Joshua got the can next to him and was about to pick it up, the demon appeared next to him. The can went skidding of to the side as Joshua attacked. Joshua's karate blow at the demon was dodged. Joshua then managed to parry the return blow. Joshua's second blow also did not connect; however, the demon did hit Joshua, hurling him off to the side. This small delay gave the rest of the team a chance to get through the demolished wall. As the demon was pointed at Black, three bolts from Rathbone's blaster struck it. Most of the team managed to dodge the pieces from the exploding demon. A finger from the demon ended up in the can with Black.
After the Holes were put up (separately this time), Whitetop put the unconscious Joshua in the infirmary's autodoc. Time to get him out was estimated at two hours. Several of the team used this as an opportunity to get some sleep. They decided to plan the next step after everyone was up to speed. At the end of the two hours the autodoc opened up to let Joshua out. Whitetop quickly hustled him out before he was fully awake. Whitetop then began waking everyone up for a planning session. Jason went over to Jake's Black Hole. He was able to wake Jessica up with no trouble, but Jake was in such a deep sleep that when he didn't at first succeed he decided to let him sleep until needed. Jessica went outside, and Jason went back to the other Black Hole.
The discussion then began. Joshua and Jessica were outside and participating via net. Whitetop went out halfway through to check the harbor. He had just turned to climb the wall to get a better view when Joshua yelled about an incoming dragon and let loose with his M-16. Whitetop, who had no weapons with him, headed for Jake's hole and the LAW rocket. Jessica raced for Jake's hole also, stepped in and hit the panic button, yelled about a dragon, and headed back out. Trey, Cartwright, Rathbone, and Kathy all headed out.
Joshua emptied one clip into the dragon, and then Trey came out of the hole and put six pistol slugs into it just as the dragon released a cloud of green gas. Joshua only got a little in his lungs before he held his breath, but Trey took much more and collapsed, unconscious. Joshua finished his reload and continued to empty his M-16 into the dragon. Jason popped out and let off a blaster shot which missed. The rest of the team got out just as the dragon turned for its next pass at them. Cartwright said to aim at the wings. Cartwright, Jason, and Jessica did just that. Joshua was out of ammunition. Whitetop was drawing a bead with the LAW rocket. Jake aimed at the eye and put a full ten burst into it. The dragon's head literally exploded as the rest of the team now dove for cover... only to find themselves in Hawaii. Whitetop was by a table in the lobby, trying to disarm the LAW. Jessica and Jason landed in the men's restroom in the bar. Jake was in the bar. Joshua was running down the road outside the hotel. When Jason escorted Jessica out of the restroom, they entered the bar to find Jake there with ten shot glasses in front of him. Over the net, Jake invited everyone to join them. Jason ordered ten more shots, and when Kathy walked in the celebration began in earnest.
