A047 Track 1 Assignment
James Morgan and Jocelyn Morgan are separately approached by a man calling himself Bob Cratchit. The team departs from the Moana Loa lobby at 8:00am, January 28, 1995.
Team Roster:
- Jocelyn Morgan
- James Morgan
- Heather Torigami
- Malcolm "Mickey" Frazier
- Dr. Vincent Emery
- Aaron Gorman
- Josh Andrews
Although the event they are supposed to prevent looks to be centered near Clauson, Colorado, due to dimensional instability the team pops into the nearest accessible point, which is in Dallas, Texas. Their contact is an IS observer, Frank Line. His cousin, Nora Pope, had been working as a housekeeper at the Winthrop Institute for Dream Research; she is the one who wrote the letter that was among the papers Cratchit gave to James and Jocelyn. The team charters a private jet to Denver. James and the rest of the team continue on to Grand Junction while Jocelyn, Aaron, Emery, and Frank visit Nora in the hospital. Emery’s examination reveals no explanation for her coma. Jocelyn rails at Frank for not taking a more proactive role to help his cousin.
[02/11/95]
Jocelyn, Aaron, and Emery sign up as volunteers at the Winthrop Institute for Dream Research. Jocelyn meets Ellen Cody, the remaining housemaid, who appears to know more about what happened to Nora Pope than she’s willing to say. She also meets the chef (great cooking, but a real creep) and the gardener (who is unwilling to converse, but keeps a furtive eye on her as she roves around the grounds).
James Morgan and Josh Andrews trespass on Fred Butts’ property. An unfortunate altercation ensues which leaves two Dobies dead, two young men badly wounded, and Morgan and Andrews in pretty sorry shape themselves. They contact Aaron who brings Dr. Emery to do some field surgery, then find a place to hide out from the law.
Mickey Frazier resists arrest, assaults a sheriff’s deputy, then goes to the sheriff’s office and turns himself in. He is handcuffed and locked in a cell.
[02/25/95]
Aaron Gorman takes charge of getting Frazier out of jail. Jocelyn waits with the getaway vehicle, and Heather takes up a position as lookout, while Aaron goes into the police station. Aaron succeeds in springing Frazier, who hightails it eastward out of town.
[Jeff S:] Aaron ends up stunning all of the policemen (3 or 4) and stealing/borrowing the sheriff's id and badge (he still has them). Also he destroyed the camera inside the sheriff's station.

Jocelyn goes ahead with her Dreamweb appointment in the morning. Emery watches from the observation area, but sees nothing amiss. After a few hours Jocelyn awakens feeling strangely tired and with a slight headache; she’s disappointed that she remembers nothing about her experience. Emery checks her over but finds no traces of drugs.
Jocelyn takes a nap in Emery’s room.
...
After dinner Jocelyn walks out onto the front porch. Suddenly she blacks out and falls flat on the lawn. When she’s revived, she can’t remember anything since she lay down for her nap
...
Mickey Frazier, keeping watch in the woods, sees a dark, ominous figure emerge from the building and shamble straight toward him. He fires twice and drops the creature at 100 yards. Soon afterward, another creature carrying some sort of large box follows the first; Mickey drops this one at exactly the same range. He waits for a few minutes, but neither creature stirs. Warily, he approaches and shines his flashlight down to get a better look at what he shot, and what was in the large box... to discover Jocelyn and Emery sprawled on the ground, the contents of Emery’s medical bag scattered nearby. Frazier quickly ascertained that Emery, shot once, was breathing shallowly and had a weak but steady pulse; Jocelyn, on the other hand, showed no pulse or respiration. Frazier immediately started CPR (unaware that it was already too late).
[Jeff S:] Aaron, disregarding the warning to not use black holes on this dimension, took Emery's(?) and threw it up on the wall, and ran inside. When he entered, he discovered that there was no power anywhere and could not see. Since he did not know the layout of this black hole to retrieve anything in the dark, he ran back out to get help. He then shot Jocelyn with Suspend in the chest, not knowing that he also needed to "suspend" her brain also. Then he helped revive Emery. Emery, seeing his black hole up, started to run in after supplies. Just before entering, a giant clawed hand reached out and grabbed him by the head. The hand proceeded to squash Emery's skull. Aaron stuck his dazer into the back hole and fired off many rounds before it was jerked out of his hand. The hand was given sufficient damage to drop Emery (I don't remember who damaged the hand). Aaron yanked down the black hole, and put it away.
...
Coming upon Dr. Winthrop, Ellen, and Harry obviously engaged in performing some sort of ritual, and not getting satisfactory answers from Winthrop ("I’ve lost... You might as well go ahead and kill me"), James Morgan kills them.
...
Fred Butts sets charges around the complex. As the team scrambles to a safe distance, explosions rock the ground and flames shoot into the sky.
...
After a long, wearying drive (including a day and a half dodging roadblocks and patrols), the team arrives in Dallas and lands on Frank Line’s doorstep. James in particular is in a really bad mood; he grabs Frank and throws him out of his own house. Unfortunately, several days must be endured before they can leave this place. The team passes the time mostly in gloomy silence. Mickey carefully remains out of James’ sight as much as possible. Frank stays away most of the time, showing up at intervals to deliver meals to the sullen group.
The team pops back. Morgan's arm, torn by dogs, will require more surgery and rehab to restore its full function. Not long after he and Jocelyn had been shot, Emery put up his black hole in an attempt to save Jocelyn, and was mauled by a powerful demonlike creature. Heather's arms had been flayed when she tried to save Emery from the creature. Josh Andrews had been shot twice in the arm. The only uninjured team members were Aaron Gorman and Mickey Frazier.
