DAY 4 – Thursday May 11, 1972
Thursday morning, everyone awakens after a very good night’s sleep. JT has an especially active day. He goes to the morgue and consults with Dr Dallas, telling him, “Hopefully, this will solve your once-a-month bloodletting.” Argus drives JT and Vicente out to the river, where Vicente notes that the mana level is still elevated but is leaching away, and will return to “normal” for this area over the next five months. Visiting one of the dead mana zones, Vicente reports that it is slowly regaining its mana. JT expresses satisfaction that the world is healing itself.
JT meets with Don Van Helsing’s brother, who has come from Scotland upon news of his brother’s death. Van Helsing explains that hunting is his family’s destiny. “Now that destiny falls to me,” although he never wanted it. He will train Don’s son to take over. JT tells him he needs to move to America. Van Helsing seems taken aback; “Why?” JT explains that he needs to guard the sunken island… and train Dorothy Parsons, who has strong magic potential, to take over that guardianship. Van Helsing mentions that his wife won’t like the idea of moving to America, much less a small backwater town, but he agrees that he needs to relocate, at least for a time.
The media are pouring into Carrollton. Sheriff Powell meets with JT and Vicente to get his story straight. He assures them that as far as he’s concerned, the events on the island never happened. Powell wants Max’s telegenic presence with him at the press conference. At 3:30pm Powell addresses the media. He outlines the various cases since January and announces that they have all been wrapped up. He states that Max was instrumental in their successful conclusion.
Carl Weber submits his letter of resignation.
