DAY 5 – Friday May 12, 1972
Friday morning, each of the group members finds a note addressed to them. On one side is written, “Time to leave – Enigma.” On the other side are the words, “Just drive off.” After breakfast, the group piles into the Caprice, Argus behind the wheel. As we leave Carroll County, there’s a feeling of disorientation, the view beyond the windshield shimmers… and suddenly we’re on a major highway, nearing Denver, Colorado.
Attached to the bobblehead that has mysteriously appeared on the dashboard is a note. Valerie reads aloud, “Congratulations on an excellent job. You are all entitled to some R&R. In the trunk you will find $1 million. In the glove compartment is a map to the Lazy 8 Dude Ranch, where you may rest and train.”
