Enigma taps Beano Luca to recruit for a mission. Beano is told very little about the mission, except the team will be going to Los Angeles, and some out-of-time anomaly is involved.
The team pops into a city park at dawn. Nearby is the freshly-killed body of a dog, its hindquarters apparently ripped away. Near the dog are strange tracks that appear to have been made by some kind of machine. The tracks lead into a stream.
Reg Myers buys a morning paper.
