DIGGING DEEPER
Very early the next morning Milo got up and headed to the hospital to help out. Siobhan arose a little bit later, but after a quick breakfast went to join him. Once everyone was up, they split for further investigations. Tanisha and Brodie headed to White Chapel to get the lay of the area. During their trip they met and discussed the situation with a local priest. They also located several places which would be suitable to set up an ambush that night to catch the slasher.
Darr, Lara Lee, Roberto, and Tormac got a carriage and headed down to Wharf Street. As they traveled Darr talked to the driver. He told Darr that he had seen two green tentacles come out of the river and grab two sailors. The man practically refused to drive down the street but he did park at the end of the three-fourths-mile street. They had been parked there for only a little while when the fog got a little thicker and they heard some hoofbeats. Tormac climbed up beside the driver just before the pace picked up. Then they heard a scream and the driver panicked and took off at breakneck speed. Tormac tried twice to get the reins away from the driver but was prevented by the driver's use of his whip. Totally frustrated, Tormac swung at and hit the driver squarely on the chin and knocked him off of the carriage. Tormac then, after more rough ride and a lot of luck, got the carriage stopped right after it bounced sideways off of a building. The ones inside the carriage managed to hang on and stay inside. They got out and immediately began chiding him. Then looking behind they saw that the driver was dead. Darr advanced to talk to the policemen who were checking out the body. Darr gave him a slightly edited version of what occurred, and told him about the attack on Wharf Street. They then caught another carriage back to the hotel.
Everyone except Milo and Siobhan made it back to the hotel for lunch. They were about half done with the meal when Detective Alistair Stone arrived. He inquired further concerning the occurrences on Wharf Street. He also met the rest. During the talk he kept taking food from the plate of anyone who was close to where he was.
That afternoon the team decided to map the locations of the slasher murders to see if there was a pattern. Darr and Lara Lee went to the police station and got the locations. Milo went out and bought several maps of the area. When they finished the process several hours later, they saw no discernable pattern. Therefore they began planning for the evening ambush of the slasher. The site they picked was Third Street in White Chapel. At first they were going to spread out in groups of two down the length of the street for a mile. Finally it was decided that Tanisha would be the stalking horse and she would be stationary at a corner. Then right after dark (about 6 p.m.) they traveled to and set up the locations. The pairs were as follows: (Brodie, Tanisha), (Tormac, Milo), (Lara Lee, Roberto), and (Siobhan, Darr).
Within fifteen minutes of the set-up being finished, the team heard something coming down the street. Those that were in position to see it informed the others via net that two boys were coming down the street pulling a cart. As these two came down the street pulling the cart (full of pots and pans), a woman and a young girl came up behind Lara Lee. Just before they got to her she noticed them and turned to see two badly-wounded dead people coming toward her. At the same time Darr noticed a policeman and another person approaching his position from the east between the buildings. Lara Lee reported via net, then cast a spell and walked up the side of the building to its roof. The two tried to climb to follow her. The child, with half of her left arm missing, had no luck. Roberto tore south and around the corner turning west and saw the situation. The woman kept climbing but the girl turned to come after him. Meanwhile, the boys had almost reached the intersection. The policeman kept coming and was almost past Darr when Siobhan broke from cover and headed south toward the intersection. Since her path would take her past the walking dead policeman, Darr informed the net that he was attacking, aimed, and put three 9mm bullets into its head, sending it down. The general fight then started. Tanisha, in order to determine if the boys were human, cast a fear spell on them that petrified them at the intersection. Four walking dead were coming up behind the cart. One of those attacked Roberto at the mouth of the alley that he came out of. Milo and Tormac ran east toward the intersection. Darr 'killed' another one with three more shots. Roberto swung on and injured one but it mangled his left arm a little. Lara Lee put a couple of bullets into the one Roberto had hurt, distracting it. Tanisha reached the boys. As Tanisha sent the boys off running west along the street, Brodie reached the cart ahead of her and grabbed and threw a pan which caught one of the walking dead just right to decapitate it. Darr put another one down with three shots to the head. Tormac had barreled down the street and run head-on into one of the walking dead to knock it over, but it didn't work and it grabbed him. As the last one Darr shot fell, one other came up beside Tormac. Darr put a shot into its head, taking it down.
The one on the roof dropped on top of Roberto, doing more damage to him. Lara Lee levitated him off of Roberto and tangled it up with the little girl. Tanisha then took out chasing the boys to protect them. The one holding Tormac grabbed him by the leg, jerked it badly, and turned him upside down. Tormac unloaded five shots into its body to no apparent effect. Darr then shot at and missed one just before another one grabbed him. Brodie came up behind the one holding Tormac and put his foot in its back and pulled his sword through its neck, decapitating it. The others moved up to get Tormac. Lara Lee moved the one she was levitating to intercept another incoming, while Roberto took care of the little girl with his baseball bat. While Lara Lee had the two tied up with each other, she put round after round into them from her 9mm. Darr fired his last three shots at the one holding him about the chest. The first one went through its head from ear to ear, but the other two missed. Darr then tried to break free but couldn't. Milo picked off several but just had them down and disabled because he had no head shots. Once Brodie had finished with Tormac's attacker, he came up behind the one holding Darr and did the same thing. By now, all the walking dead in the immediate area were down or dead. Milo did quick first aid on Darr, and Darr began emptying out the cart. Milo and Siobhan then began to work on Tormac and Roberto. Tanisha was missing.
When Tanisha began chasing the boys, they had a two-second lead and were far enough away that she couldn't see them in the fog. However, after about ten seconds or so of running she heard someone gaining on her from behind. Before she could turn around, she had received a severe cut on the back calf of each of her legs. The armor cloth that Brodie had loaned her to cover her legs protected her from some of the damage, enough so that she was able to turn over, draw her laser, and put a large hole in her attacker. He went down. Tanisha crawled over to him, drew her force sword, and cut off his head. Once the main action was over she called in via the net, and Brodie came and carried her back to the main group where healing was done on her which repaired her cut hamstrings. Once every wounded was treated they got in the cart and were pulled back to the hotel. The team arrived back at the hotel at about 9:45 p.m. The team reloaded all their weapon clips and then prepared for sleep. All the wounded went to bed. Milo and Siobhan set themselves to wake up every hour to check on the injured. Brodie stayed awake as a roving guard.
